Accommodations continue to impress
By Mark Chesnut
Los Cabos attracts repeat visitors year after year for many reasons. But ask anyone to explain the allure of this sunny paradise, and the destination’s hotels are likely to appear toward the top of the list.
The Los Cabos hotel experience is like no other. After all, no other destination blends excellent service, indulgent amenities and luxurious settings so expertly, serving it up against a dramatic, postcard-perfect backdrop of water and mountains. Whether you choose accommodations in San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas or along The Corridor that connects them, one thing is for sure: You’re going to get pampered.
Fresh Options
The hotels of Los Cabos are always ready with new ways to make that next vacation exciting. Among the newest resort properties is Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa, which opened in early 2011. Additional new luxury hotels are in the works as well — future openings include the Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort, slated to debut in early 2012; the Delano Cabo San Lucas, scheduled for early 2013; and the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, to open in 2014.
Existing properties, meanwhile, continue to improve their offerings. Since August 2011, for example, guests have been checking into the freshly refurbished Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos, an impressive conversion of the former Presidente InterContinental Los Cabos Resort. The standard of service is the same, but the hotel now sports the stylishly new look of the revamped Holiday Inn brand.
Even the smallest new amenity can make the experience that much more special. In 2011, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort, introduced a new “hot off the press” service that provides guests with access to advance copies of popular novels, up to six months before their release date. Beach reading has never been so rewarding.
Luxury for Every Taste
Guests at both all-inclusive and European-plan hotels are likely to notice a distinctly superior array of services and amenities, compared to other destinations. At the 66-room Capella Pedregal Resort and Spa, for example, all guests are treated to the services of a personal assistant and maid — and when they book a one-, two- or three-bedroom Beach Suite, they are also served by a dedicated Beach Attendant.
Los Cabos is also renowned for the quality of its hotel spas. Guests may indulge at a variety of facilities, including the 7,036-square-foot YHI Spa at ME Cabo, the 12,000-square-foot Auriga Spa at Capella Pedregal Resort and Spa and the 31,000-square-foot Desert Spa, which serves the Villa La Estancia, Villa del Arco and Villa del Palmar resorts. At the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort, the SOMMA WineSPA offers a classic deep-tissue massage that uses wine oil to ease tension and muscle aches, as well as a Cabernet Sauvignon grape wrap.
Wine and Dine
Hotel dining in Los Cabos is, quite simply, a delicious experience. At the Westin Resort & Spa, guests may dine at any of five distinct restaurants, with gourmet seafood and international cuisine among the mouthwatering options. The Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort is home to five dining venues as well, including El Mesón, which specializes in bold Mexican dishes, and Fenicia, where Italian specialties are served with flair.
All-inclusive dining options in Los Cabos are decidedly upscale and diverse. Guests at Pueblo Bonito Pacífica Resort & Spa, for example, can enjoy its Luxury without Limitations program, which features gourmet a la carte dining, wine and tequila tastings, afternoon tea, cocktails and specialty beverages, all in a luxurious, adults-only environment. The Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort & Spa, meanwhile, has received the AAA Four Diamond Award for its restaurant, LaFrida, and also offers three cooking classes — Tequila Academy, Asian Cooking and Cabo Cuisine 101.
Upgrade Options
Visitors can add even more luxury to their Los Cabos experience by upgrading with special services. At ME Cabo, guests can reserve a room on The Level, an entire floor dedicated to upscale services, with suites that have floor-to-ceiling windows, ocean views and a wealth of amenities.
The Villa Group, meanwhile, offers visitors the opportunity to upgrade to Signature Villa Service, with additional amenities, including wine, a handmade beach bag, fresh flowers and seasonal fruit upon arrival, a welcome snack and beverage basket, in-suite aromatherapy and use of a DVD player with a selection of movies. And at Secrets Marquis Los Cabos, vacationers opting for the Marquis Magic service will enjoy VIP check-in, a 10-minute neck massage, welcome drink and guacamole upon arrival, scented fresh towels, one evening of complimentary babysitting and a complimentary continental breakfast. With so many ways to feel welcome, it’s no wonder that visitors keep coming back.
