Alberto Coppel: Behind the Scenes

By Rick Stedman

Alberto CoppelComplete guest satisfaction is the goal at Pueblo Bonito Resorts & Spas in Los Cabos. Though hundreds of guests experience this attention to detail when staying at the company's luxurious properties — four in Los Cabos alone — there's a driving force behind the scenes responsible for that efficiency. That driving force is Alberto Coppel, corporate director of operations for Pueblo Bonito.

"At Pueblo Bonito Resorts & Spas, we have more than 6,000 employees and are the largest employer in Los Cabos. We emphasize personalized service, friendliness and courtesy, while actively courting feedback from our guests in order to improve the quality of their experience with us," says Coppel. "Our satisfaction ratings are very high, which stems from the 'win with us' policy we have with our employees. They understand that excellent treatment of guests is key to our success and, consequently, to their own. In return, we treat our employees very well."

Coppel grew up in Mazatlán and has been a resident of Los Cabos for the past 15 years. He majored in business while attending the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente in Guadalajara. When not driving the corporate machine of Pueblo Bonito Hotels, Coppel can be found riding his mountain bike or engrossed in a good book.

"Biking keeps me in good physical shape, clears my mind and helps reduce stress, as does reading," he says. "I love books and read a great deal, mostly biographies and history and historical fiction. Reading is informative and exercises my brain. It gives me perspective to have a sense of the scope of history and of the lives of worthy individuals."

With a solid work ethic, Coppel traces that aspect of his life to his mother. "She showed me the value of hard work, instilled in me high principles and taught me to always treat others as I would want them to treat me," he says.

Others who influenced Coppel's life include Ernesto Coppel Kelly, founder and head of Pueblo Bonito Resorts, who encouraged him to do the things he never thought he could do. "He opened an entire new area of potential in me," he reflects.

Letty Coppel, co-owner of the company and friend for the past 10 years, gave good advice to Alberto that helped him improve along the way.

It's a combination of all these experiences and influences that result in the spectacular hotel rooms guests enjoy when staying at Pueblo Bonito Hotels. All of these luxury resorts — including Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, Pueblo Bonito Pacífica and Pueblo Bonito Rosé — are located directly on either the Sea of Cortés or the Pacific Ocean. All of them offer top-of-the-line amenities as well as first-class service.

A few years ago, Coppel guided the local tourism industry by serving as president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association for two consecutive terms. "I was honored to serve in that capacity," he says, "and I am very happy to be part of Los Cabos and Pueblo Bonito."
