Nightlife in Los Cabos: Flair and originality on Land's End
By Sarah Muñoz
You may have heard about Cabo San Lucas’ boisterous bars and three-hour pleasure cruises, but there’s another side to nightlife here — one that showcases the area’s posh establishments with a hint of cultural appeal.
Many hotels and resorts in the area allow area visitors to stop in for an evening of live jazz and smooth drinks that are often accompanied by views of crashing waves and whatever lies beyond. Las Ventanas al Paraíso, for instance, has tequila lessons twice a week in its new Tequila Bar, with specially trained “tequileros” teaching about the distillation process, classification and proper way to enjoy this uniquely Mexican liquor. Participants may stick around after class to take in the view of the Sea of Cortés from the bar and indulge in the different types of ceviches and sushi.
San José has grown in its evening options, with live concerts and cultural programs in the main plaza and plenty of restaurants, cigar bars and cafés nearby in which to stop before or after the event. There is also a bi-weekly Art Walk along its growing arts district that lets visitors explore its galleries, each of which has its own flair and originality, with paintings, sculptures and other artworks on display. Some galleries offer wine and hors d’oeuvres to those who stop by. The tour is available on Thursday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. (perfect for a pre-dinner excursion); morning people can also visit on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m.
Of course, those who also want a taste of “crazy” Cabo can take advantage of all the fun bars that have helped put Cabo San Lucas on the map, including El Squid Roe and The Giggling Marlin. The beauty of it all is that you do have the choice to try something different every night you’re here.
