Diamonds Are Forever

Looking for the perfect diamond ring? Look no further than Los Cabos.

A luxe vacation destination, here you’ll find a variety of diamond jewelry — whether you are looking for a pair of earrings for yourself, an anniversary gift or a diamond ring for your upcoming Cabo wedding. Diamonds have long been considered the most well-known, prized and sought-after gemstones in the world. Their elegance, durability and radiance have captured our imagination and interest for thousands of years. Diamonds also represent the ultimate gift of love.

Buying a piece of diamond jewelry such as an engagement ring or earrings can seem like a daunting task. That’s why it’s important to understand the factors that determine the cost and quality of a diamond, which are known as the four Cs: cut, color, clarity and carat weight.

Cut has to do with the diamond’s design and shape, and includes shapes such as round, emerald, princess and radiant. A well-cut stone can make the diamond sparkle even more by releasing its inner brilliance and hiding inclusions, whereas a poorly cut stone results in a dull diamond.

Color has to do with the amount of color in white diamonds. Generally, the whiter a stone, the more valuable it is. Many diamonds are graded on the GIA color scale, which begins with D for most colorless and moves down to Z, which has the most color. In general, diamonds in the D-F color range are all good buys and are the most valuable, since they are the most rare. The amount of color that is visible also depends on the size of the diamond, as well as how it’s cut and mounted.

Clarity has to do with whether there are any external flaws (known as blemishes) or internal flaws (known as inclusions) in a diamond. They are graded on a GIA scale ranging from FL (for flawless) to I (for imperfect), although there are many grades in between. Although the best diamonds are flawless, these are extremely rare and expensive.

Carat has to do with the measure of weight for diamonds. One carat is equal to 100 points, so a half-carat diamond would be a 50-point diamond. In order to determine the weight of a diamond, it must be loose. While large diamonds are usually more rare and valuable, the other Cs also play a role in determining the stone’s value. Therefore, it’s possible for a small stone with exceptional color, cut and clarity to be more valuable than a larger stone that has more average factors. In addition to white diamonds, there are also fancy colored diamonds in red, pink, yellow, brown and other colors. These stones have become quite popular in recent years. The value of a fancy color diamond has a great deal to do with the rarity of its color.
