Families Welcome

Bring the kids — there's fun for all ages here

Don't think for a minute that Los Cabos is all about crazy nights and drinking games. Despite its reputation for bleary-eyed revelry, this is also a fantastic family destination — a natural playground that begs to be discovered and explored.

Families of all types can enjoy an affordable escape amidst Baja's striking landscapes, with a great deal of outdoorsy options readily available. Many hotels and resorts offer kids' clubs and other amenities and conveniences for children, though you'll want to show them the glory of the region too. One way to start off the getaway is with Gray Line Los Cabos, which offers a wealth of tour alternatives for all ages — from cultural and sightseeing activities to ecotours, and even visits to La Paz and Todos Santos. Once you and your family have gotten a taste of Baja, you won't want to stop exploring.

At Cabo Dolphins, everyone — including children as young as five — can spend some time with well-cared-for Pacific bottlenose dolphins as they frolic about and let themselves be petted. All participants wear life vests, and the trainers have years of experience. "We have the most modern and exclusive dolphin center in Mexico and offer personalized professional activities with the dolphins, with a range of options for all ages," says Sales Manager Mark Watson, adding that dolphins are healthy and happy at the Cabo Dolphins facility.

At sister enterprise Cabo Adventures, there's a whole menu of fun in store, with off-the-beaten-path activities showcasing the area's flora and fauna. There's an off-road 4x4 desert safari that takes guests to little-explored spots in Baja California Sur, as well as America's Cup match racing in the cool waters of Baja. Also available is a canopy canyon tour that takes guests into a UNESCO-protected biosphere to "sail" over nature's wonders.

Caborey also has great alternatives for young and old — hop on this three-level catamaran and get up close and personal with the Arch and surrounding waters. Often you'll get a glimpse of sea lions sunning themselves and making loud noises when boats get near. You can book a nice dinner cruise and witness what must be the world's most beautiful sunset, enjoy a leisurely snorkeling tour that will show you the beauties of both the Sea of Cortés and Chileno Bay or, during whale-watching season, spot the world's largest mammals visiting Baja.

Children will love the Buccaneer Queen, which also offers sunset and whale-watching tours. This vessel, however, is an 86-foot tall ship — a veteran of several Hollywood movies and an exciting alternative for young pirates. Its snorkeling tour includes a treasure hunt at Lover's Beach.

One of the most coveted options for visitors in Baja is off-road driving, and Wide Open gives adventurers the chance to do it on a controlled and safe area just off of Cabo San Lucas. It also offers adventure tours that give travelers the opportunity to experience the "primitive" side of Baja along mountain trails, valleys and canyons.
