Sergio Castillo: Puerto Los Cabos' Head Pro

JAs the former first assistant at the famed course, he knows Pebble Beach intimately. Though he looks back on his previous golf pro position with fondness, Sergio Castillo has found a new home in Los Cabos. Since its opening in 2007, Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club has been under the guidance of Castillo, who has been a golf professional for the past 10 years.

Born in Atlanta of Cuban descent, Castillo grew up in New Orleans, graduating from Loyola University and playing college baseball at the University of New Orleans. "If I wasn't a golf pro, I'd probably be coaching baseball," says Castillo, who's also an avid surfer. Castillo's family members are also avid golfers, including wife, Angie, and 6-year-old son Seve. The couple also has two daughters, Lily, 5 and Lucia, 3.

As part of a trio of Questro Golf courses in greater Los Cabos, Puerto Los Cabos has quickly become a favorite of locals and visitors alike. "Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club has been very well received, and it is easily the best value in the area," says Castillo. Not only is the course visually stunning; customer service is at the forefront in course accolades. "Our staff here is by far the best staff I have ever worked with," boasts the head professional. "It's incredible how often visitors leave compliments about our service and how friendly our staff is. It is probably the one aspect of our operation that I am most proud of."

For Castillo, there are a few golf courses that set the standard and are his personal favorites. Those courses include San Francisco Golf Club, Valley Club of Montecito and Cypress Point. However, his fondness for Puerto Los Cabos has grown immensely during his tenure as head professional. "It's the most peaceful, serene golf course in Los Cabos," he says. "It is a beautiful golf course set right on the water, with three holes directly on the ocean. We have a very unique property that provides spectacular elevated ocean views from each hole on the course. A great example is our sixth hole; it is not on the ocean, but from the tee box you are able to see 13 miles of beach! Our 12th hole has a view of the entire city of San José del Cabo, including a great view of the new marina."
